This smores crack recipe is a take on the original Christmas crack treats that have been circulating the internet lately. It is very simple to make and is incredibly tasty and highly addictive. Therefore, it’s very deserving of the name “crack” plus it cracks apart into different bite sized pieces of heavenly deliciousness.

This recipe will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes to prepare because it needs time to freeze so plan accordingly. If you can’t fit a large baking sheet in your freezer than you can cool it in the fridge. Consequently, it will take a bit longer but will be equally delicious.

Smores Christmas crack makes a great gift and is perfect for a holiday potluck or a festive get together. You will be the hit of the party if you show up with these sweet treats! Check out my COQUITO recipe for a wonderful holiday drink as well as my WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIP PUMPKIN BREAD recipe.

Flaky sea salt

I’m going to harp on the importance of the flaky sea salt (Maldon salt) here. It truely makes a difference in this recipe but can be hard to find in grocery stores. Specialty stores like Whole Foods may have it otherwise buy it HERE online. That’s how I purchased it, and it’s totally worth the extra money. We also use it as a finishing salt, like a garnish and it’s spectacular on charred french bread.

The salt can be omitted if you are watching your sodium intake but I do feel like my smores crack recipe is pretty dependent on the salted caramel flavor. Alternativly, you could use salted butter to help enhance the flavor without raising the sodium amounts too much.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Place the graham crackers in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, you may need to spray a little bit of cooking spray on the paper. THIS brand does not need to be greased prior to use and its better for you and the environment.
  2. Melt the butter and brown sugar just barely to a boil. Do not take it as far as smooth caramel.
  3. Pour the butter/sugar over the graham crackers and spread it all over. Sprinkle with the Maldon salt.
  4. Bake for 5 minutes in a 350-degree oven.
  5. Remove from oven and sprinkle 1/2 pack of chocolate chips over the graham crackers. The chocolate chips will melt, and you can spread it evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the marshmallows over the chocolate and BROIL for a couple of minutes. Watch very closely as they will burn. I just keep my oven door open and watch until the marshmallows are a perfect golden brown on top.
  7. Place in the freezer for 1-2 hours or refrigerate for 3 hours.
  8. Using your hands, crack apart into the size pieces that you desire.

Equipment

  • 1 Baking sheet

Ingredients

  • 9-10 whole Graham cracker sheets broken in half
  • 1 cup Butter (2 sticks) unsalted
  • 1 cup Brown sugar packed
  • 1-2 cup Chocolate chips 60% cacao
  • 1-2 cup Marshmallows small
  • 2 tsp Flaky sea salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray (if needed).
  • Break the graham cracker sheets in half along the perforations and place side by side on the parchment paper. Cover the entire baking sheet in 1 layer of graham crackers.
  • In a large skillet over medium-low heat melt the butter and then add the brown sugar. Bring to a slight boil and whisk to incorporate. Do not overcook.
  • Pour the butter and sugar mixture over the graham crackers and spread to cover the crackers with a spatula. Sprinkle the flaky sea salt over the caramel and place in oven for 5 minutes.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top. Using a spatula spread the chocolate as it melts over the surface of the caramel/graham crackers. Sprinkle the remaining sea salt over the chocolate.
  • Turn oven to broil and sprinkle the marshmallows over the top of the chocolate. Broil (with oven door open) until the marshmallows become brown but not burned. This will take 2-4 minutes depending on your broiler.
  • Let the baking sheet cool for a few minutes and then place in freezer for at least 1 hour or in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  • Break or crack apart into smaller pieces and enjoy.
