Brussels sprouts, you either love them or hate them. I’ve found that there really is no in-between for most people. If you are a lover of sprouts, then I know you will enjoy my hot honey brussels sprout recipe.

I didn’t grow up eating brussels sprout. In all honesty, If I had I probably wouldn’t like them as much as I do now. Introducing my father to sprouts was a pretty funny experience. He, like so many, had been forced to eat yucky, mushy brussels sprouts growing up. He was not a happy camper when I procured a delicious dish of bacon and feta Brussels and placed them in front of him. I remember, vividly, the face he made at the dinner table. By the way, that recipe is fantastic as well. Bacon makes everything better! Needless to say, after he was able to force a few down, he actually liked them, I think.

I know that if my dad was still on this beautiful planet then he would approve of my roasted brussels sprouts with hot honey. He was a lover of spicy foods and vegetables and who doesn’t love sweet and spicy veggies? He would also have loved my creamy brussels sprout recipe as well!

How to make a hot honey sauce

There are a couple of ways to make a hot honey sauce and it’s very simple to do. It’s just honey (duh) and chili paste. The chili paste that I use is called Sambol Oelek. Click on the highlighted item and it will direct you to its page on Amazon. It is generally found in Asian food stores or the Asian food isle at the grocery store. Calabrian chili paste can also be used in place of the Sambol Oelek. I have a hard time finding that one around here, but Amazon has everything you need!

A little goes a long way with chili paste so I use a 3:1 ratio when making mine. 3 parts honey to 1 part chili paste will give you a medium+ spiciness. Feel free to add more or less as you make it to your liking.

Hot honey is also delicious on chicken, pizza and noodles. Clearly, that makes it perfect for brussels sprouts!

You can also find hot honey in the condiment isle of your grocery store or here.

How to make hot honey Brussels sprouts

Making hot honey roasted brussels sprouts couldn’t be easier! It’s just 4 steps.

  • Cut off stem and peel outer leaves off of Brussels. Cut in half, lengthwise.
  • Add 1 TBSP of olive oil to Brussels. I use garlic flavored olive oil.
  • Pour half of the hot honey over sprouts, mix well.
  • Roast in oven for 15-20 mins

I like to cover the sprouts for the 1st ten minutes to help them steam a bit. I remove the foil and cook uncovered for another 5-10 minutes and then turn the broiler on to char them. Be careful when broiling as the honey will burn quick, keep a good eye on them. I only needed 1 minute under my broiler, but it tends to run hotter than most. Add extra sauce to the finished product if needed.
