This chocolate chip banana bread recipe is simple to make and delicious to consume at any time of the day. It’s perfect to eat with breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert or just as a plain old snack. Its heavenly with coffee! Trust me on this.
Banana bread with chocolate chips was one of those things that my mom and I would make together. I was and still am a messy cook when it comes to using flour and sugar. I know it drove my mom nuts because she was always behind me cleaning up my kitchen messes. Come to think of it, she still does that when given the chance. And, oh boy, I made a heck of a mess making this today! I spilled sugar everywhere! It’s good to know that I’m consistent, at least.
I don’t like to bake much because I’m not a fan of “rules” and perfect measurements, but this recipe is one of the exceptions. It only requires a hand or bowl mixer, 2 large bowls, a 1 cup measuring cup and a 1 tsp measuring spoon. A loaf pan is helpful here too!
BANANA BREAD OPTIONS
You must use overripe bananas in this and all banana bread recipes. We always have bananas in the house which is funny because I really don’t like them. However, I do use them in smoothies, bread or on top of French toast. With that being said, we always have brown overripe bananas sitting on the counter. I will usually freeze them to use in smoothies, so I don’t waste our money.
The type of chocolate chip used in this banana bread recipe doesn’t matter. I use whatever I have on hand. In my latest bread I used the 60% large chips, but I’ve used mini chips and sugar free chips in the past and they work just fine as well.
I make my banana bread with all-purpose flour but whole wheat would work fine in this too. I have not experimented with gluten free flour yet. This is definitely not a keto/low carb friendly recipe either.
This recipe makes a great chocolate-less banana bread as well. That would be a plain jane banana bread and it’s still quite delightful. Nuts like walnuts or pecans could be added or substituted for the chocolate chips.
I have a BLUEBERRY BREAD recipe and also a WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIP PUMPKIN BREAD recipe that is also a home run. Don’t forget to check those out as well.
